If we’re willing to believe in God then we’re willing to believe in a dictatorship
Both dictatorships and God have in common the idea that they take care of everything, know all the answers, and that we should just sign away all our free will to them in exchange for a perfect life.
The idea of God is to say that someone else knows everything and you need to go through them to know things. It basically rejects the authority of your own mind to make decisions, form opinions, and create facts.
Dictatorships, at least strong dictatorships, basically bring that same energy directly to earth. Under these dictatorships all your political, and often social and cultural, opinions come directly from the dictator. The dictator can tell you one thing on Monday and the complete opposite on Tuesday and you’ll just roll with it because the dictator is seen as the only real source for truth on earth. Whatever your independent mind might think is not given any attention.
Historically humans have almost always been governed by dictators and alongside this was the idea of God. Dictators and God often go hand in hand because both of them really suppress the agency of the individuals’ mind and demand that every individual rely on them to get their information.
I actually kind of believe in God but I’m also convinced that dictatorships are almost always bad for individual quality of life. And I can’t help but notice that the idea of God and the idea of the dictator are basically the same idea.
