Friendly or flirting?

The never-ending question

Anyways, I had been gone from uni for a like a month cause I was sick, so I didn't get to know the people in my course very well. Once I started feeling better and started going, my first day back I kinda felt this guy looking at me but wasn't sure, didn't wanna think overanalyze, also I sat at the front so I couldn't see mostly just felt. At the end of the class I stayed back since I needed to speak with my professor and he approached me and asked my name and generally just talked a bit. Next class he asked if I wanted to study with him afterwards, and having been so socially isolated I looked forward to it, so he added me on Facebook (he had something to do first) and then went to library to study. At the library we talked some again, and he made a comment if I was wearing any perfume or so. Then he said I smelled 'fresh like the ocean'. Have no idea if that was a compliment but I just kinda let it go. He got a bit awkward but maybe due to my reaction (idk)

He quite social and includes everybody, so not sure if he treats me different or if I'm just overthinking it. But feels like he looks at me a lot at times and approaches me, but might just wanna socialize.

Was sure at first he was maybe at least a bit interested but then he talked with one of our friends in front of me about how he felt bad for his ex-gf. Thought it was about random since they weren't even talking about it but he just brought it up. And another time when we were studying he asked me if I had a place to live (live alone in another city) because they were renting out a room at his parents place - found it a bit odd at first but then very reasonable as I am a woman, don't smoke or party and quite calm so ik many would like someone like me renting a room

Anyways, I'm pretty sure I'm overthinking it, but could he have been flirting?
