Avoir + verb ending in é
Since I've been led down the wrong road with Duo before, I'm wondering if this is really the past tense in French. I apologize, because I don't really know the grammatical term for it, but I'm English we have a simple past tense, like "I smiled", "I talked", etc. Using have in English gives a subtly different meaning, such as "I have smiled" or "I have talked". Is there a simple part tense in French also, that Duo is saving for later (maybe a harder concept) or is have + participle just French's equivalent of the simple past.
