New tires for my 2005

Between the Pax system a VCM related issues, you don’t see many 2005 Touring trims left on the road, but ours is still hanging in there enough to warrant another new set of rubber at 213,400 miles. (Mostly city, so these are HARD, short trip, mom-carting-kids-miles). I know this because we’ve owned this van since April of 2006.

I went with a set of Nokians because on another vehicle they were superb. The previous Michelins had provided good service life (as michelin generally does) but they had gotten brutally hard as they neared the end of life and ride quality was terrible even with fresh struts and shocks.

I de-paxed the Van in 2011 so I’ve been running OEM Honda wheels from a Ridgeline that fit perfect and mounted 235/60r17 tires like the lower trim Odysseys had.

This time, I went down to 225/65r17 tires— a tiny bit taller, a tiny bit narrower. So far, I’m elated. The new Nokians ride super smoothly and are quiet. And— like my first experience with Nokians— they seem to be improving MPG, but it’s too soon for anything but anecdotes. Time will tell.

I don’t expect these tires to go 50k miles, but given the age and mileage of our van, I don’t think this van will live to see another set of rubber. That said, the recent switch to Valvoline Restore and Protect giving our van the Benjamin Button treatment and it may very well have quite a bit of life left actually.
