1 week and 200 miles later...

It's been a week since I passed my test and yesterday I had my first day out by myself.

Once again I borrowed my mother's Nissan Leaf and just spent the day driving around the North East.

It was weird, because despite having less than 20 hours of lessons prior to passing, and driving for a few hours with my mother last weekend, it felt as if I'd been driving for a decade. It all felt so natural, I was barely even thinking about it.

The only issue I had was driving home in the middle of the night, in the rain. It was my first experience of driving in the dark and boy was it an experience! While the LED headlights were great, the auto high-beam was a right pain in the backside, whenever I went past a road sign, it would think there was a car coming and go back to the dipped beam, which felt like I was being temporarily blinded due to the difference in brightness. Thankfully it was relatively easy to disable it by turning the headlights on manually.

As I said in my last post, I think one thing that made the drive more enjoyable was the car. The Nissan Leaf isn't exactly the pinnacle of motoring, but it handles really well considering the weight of it, the steering is really accurate and easy to place, and it has plenty of power. Driving along twisty country roads really was 'fun'.

For a while I was considering going for something like the Mokka-E that I learned in, but after driving something that's a bit less wobbly, I don't think I can!

I've now driven over 200 miles in the week since I've passed, and the novelty still hasn't worn off, and I really hope it never does!
