Is this a normal thing to check for?
So I've been in the military for a long time, just got out, went to my first civilian dentist, and suddenly I have periodontal disease. Military docs never checked for this? I doubt it. I was ok with this, but then my wife went to this same dentist and got diagnosed as well, and she's been seen regularly by civilian dentists and never caught it. We feel like they are just digging in our pockets, for money.
Also, why doesn't US insurance cover this? There is an added shock of doing copays for the first time and seeing $60 antibacterial treatments per tooth among other things that aren't covered. Makes me feel like if insurance doesn't cover it, it's not necessary.
