How I Built Liinks to $25K MRR and Quit My Full-Time Job
Hey everyone!
I wanted to share my journey of building a profitable SaaS business, Liinks.co, which allowed me to quit my full-time job and focus on it full-time. Hopefully, this will inspire anyone in a similar position who's thinking about starting their own side project.
My journey with Liinks started back in 2019. I was working as a software engineer, but I always had the itch to create something of my own—a business I could control and grow. The link-in-bio space was competitive, but I saw room for improvement. The tools out there lacked customization or were overpriced.
I decided to build Liinks: a link-in-bio tool that’s simple, affordable, and customizable. My target audience? Creators, influencers, and small businesses who needed a user-friendly and powerful tool to organize their online presence. My initial goal was simple: make my first dollar online and grow steadily from there.
Like many of you, I started this as a side project while balancing a 9-to-5. I bootstrapped everything, with no investors and no big launches—just me and my computer. After launching, I promoted Liinks on platforms like Indie Hackers and Product Hunt. Growth was slow at first, but I remember that amazing feeling when I received my first Stripe notification!
It wasn’t all smooth sailing. There were plenty of ups and downs, and times when I doubted whether Liinks would take off.
Fast forward to today—Liinks now generates over $25K in MRR with more than 5,000 paying customers. In August 2024, I finally made the leap and quit my full-time job to focus on Liinks full-time. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m excited for what’s ahead!
Some lessons I’ve learned along the way:
Ship early: Don’t wait for your product to be perfect. Get it out there and let users help shape it.
Listen to your users: Some of the best features in Liinks came directly from customer feedback.
Don’t be afraid to pivot: If something isn’t working, don’t be afraid to adjust your strategy.
Persistence pays off: Building something worthwhile takes time, but if you stay consistent, you’ll get there.
If you’re thinking about starting a side project, my advice is to go for it! The validation will come, and so will the challenges, but it’s all part of the journey.
