Valve Index or Oculus Rift?

So for the last week I have been having trouble deciding if I want vr or not and if I do what headset I should get it. I was wondering what the steam community thought was better. Is there a valid reason for the valve index to be 600$ more than the oculus rift s? Or should I wait on a headset? Also does anyone know if their is any rumors of new vr headsets coming? I don’t want to buy a headset and a new better version comes out only a month or so later...
