Do you think W.D Gaster met any previous humans? (Before he shattered)

Like, he was the Royal Scientist before Alphys, but we don't know how old Alphys is or how long she's been in-charge. Probably awhile? At least a few years?

So do you think he encountered any previous humans? Maybe even battled, then befriended them like we tend to do in Undertale?
