Are job posts becoming more demanding?

I know the joke of "minimum wage for a PhD" has been around for at least a decade, so this isn't a new thought. Two years ago, when I was looking for work, I found plenty of decent options. Now, almost every post I look at either requires something ridiculous or is shady.

A sampler of nonsense:

  • minimum pay, no benefits, not remote, for a location on the other side of the country, listed in my city in case people want to relocate

  • wants full teaching qualifications in multiple regions, pays minimum wage, must work weekends and holidays

  • professional agency spending thousands every day for notable clients, please apply to this gmail address

  • the same AI company listing 6 different jobs that are actually one job

  • professional tech company that's the next big thing, has zero web presence or a dead web presence

  • brags about how modern they are, asks for experience with social media sites that no longer exist

  • providing high-quality, demanding text editing, posting is full of mistakes

  • postings possibly copied and pasted by AI because no human could write this vaguely

  • and the perennial favourite: it's sales but we're calling it something else

What's the point of demanding the world if you won't do the basics? You're only going to get desperate or unsuitable candidates.

I'm starting to wonder if I'm being too fussy. I don't care about landing a dream job, but I don't have the time or patience to deal with scam posts or posts that may as well be scams.
