Reincarnation is real, but you have a choice to make

You die. There’s no formal afterlife, but your soul does have a choice — you can simply cease to be, or you can be reincarnated. However, there’s a catch to reincarnation. Due to some mumbo jumbo about the universe needing to maintain balance for reasons unimportant to this scenario, you cannot be reincarnated as any species you have previously lived as before. For you, this is your first go-round. You can’t be a human again, but any other species is on the table (as long as it’s not already extinct). And bonus: you’ll essentially still be “you,” just with the mind and body of the new species you choose. (No retaining memories from past lives though.) If you choose to be a chimpanzee, you’ll retain your personality and basic intelligence within the capacity of what’s reasonable for a chimpanzee. But the same goes if you choose to be a goldfish. You might still be smart and bit of a jokester, but it’s all relative to what’s possible for a goldfish in that regard. So, assuming you don’t opt to just cease to exist, what species are you choosing to be next? What seems fun, or badass? Do you pick something with a short average lifespan so if it sucks it’s at least over with quick? Or do you pick a species that typically has a long life? Do you want to be wild or domesticated? Pick wisely — it’s only your whole (next) life you’re deciding on. I’m probably going with house cat first, but it’s tempting to say something like beaver just because I think it’d be fun to just swim around and build my dam all day.
