Why use black instead white when taking pictures of miniatures.

Wanted to get insight to why people use black backgrounds or white backgrounds when taking picture of their minis. I'm fairly new to trying to photograph my minis and was curious about the benefits of each. An example of one I took recently is below. Any additional tips you all have for taking photos of minis would be great.
