Boyfriend asked me to go to the gym
This is more a vent than anything, or maybe I am wondering if this is a common conversation in relationships. To preface, I am pretty small, I am 5’1 and weigh about 110 pounds. I eat healthy, but likely not nearly enough since I am a college student. I do go to the gym about every other day to do weights and a little cardio here and there. I am also working towards my degree, so most of my time is either in class, the library, or the gym. My boyfriend lives far away and also goes to the gym. His type in the past has been a little thicker and curvier, but I did not know this until very recently. In the past few months or so, we have had a few heated conversations around his insistence to try and get me to go to the gym more than I already do (which honestly is not very feasible). He knows I have dealt with weight and eating issues, and I have asked him a few times to not make comments about how I should gain some more weight in my hips and butt. Just a few days ago, he brought it up again how he is really attracted to curves and he would like me to workout more, despite my ask to stop since it is very damaging to my mental health. He stated he cannot help what he is attracted to and wishes I would work towards a curvier body type. Although I agree with him that partners should always be growing for one another, I don’t think this is really same thing I guess. I love him a lot, obviously, and he has shown me the same, but I wonder if this is common.
