I believe in CIG
Yeah, I’m prepared to be flamed for this but I do believe in them. I don’t necessarily trust the dates and timesheets they give us, but I believe CIG are honest about their intention to finish this, I believe they’re really trying their best, that they’re passionate about it and I also believe it is all actually possible.
If you really do stop to analyze it - which most people don’t - Star Citizen’s scope is much bigger and more complex than any other AAA game ever done. It’s not even close. The funding model and development cycle are also different from anything we’ve ever seen with other, traditionally publisher promoted, games. Therefore it’s simply not reasonable to expect similar timesheet cycles to those.
That said, I can totally see why most people don’t. CIG have missed a lot of dates due to feature creep and extensive rework decisions. Their funding model promoting unfinished ship concepts and “selling” them for hundreds of dollars does, absolutely, look shady if you look at it from afar. A lot of flak also comes from people without enough information comparing it to the development cycles of other AAA games. Finally, the communication they use to promote the project, despite all the pop up alerts, isn't really super clear about the current state of development, which leads to a lot of frustration and anger from the more careless and vulnerable early adopters. The image painted by all that is understandably an ugly one, and I don’t think it will change until CIG delivers Squadron 42 in 2026 and have it be an absolute success.
